Unbrowse verion 1.6.0.1330 with Power Features Expired
Running on windows 7 professional

While evaluating Unbrowse I encountered a problem when graphing some Counter64 (Unsigned64) values.
The walk is performed correctly and with wireshark i can see that the correct values are sent to Unbrowse.
However in the graph I sometimes encounter large negative values like -3.60e+018.

Is this a known problem ? I find it especially strange as the value is defined as a Counter64 which is Unsigned and such a value cannot be negative.

As graphing would be an important feature for my application this is kind of a showstopper.

Any help would be appreciated,

Tom

Hi,

This is not a known problem. Need two quick clarifications to proceed from our end.

1. Are you using the Graphing included with Unbrowse ?

2. Are you seeing negative values with the walker ?

1. Just select the MIB module, then select the Counter64 variables
2. Press New Walker, then Walk..

Thanks,

1) Yes, I am using the internal graph tool

2) No negative values in the walker. (Although I haven't performed it as often as the graph)

Can you please upgrade to the newest build and see if the problem persists ?

Thanks,

Just upgraded to the latest release and started the scenario again.
That's when I realized that the Counter64 is actually a counter which increases with ~24000 per second. So it is a large number which keeps increasing in the SNMP walk.

The graph however clearly shows values of around 24000 so it seems to look at the delta in some clever way.

This works fine when the values of Counter64 are running at the right rate and are always available. It seems that sometimes a value is missed which results in a large delta in the graph.

Bottom line, my current view is that this is not a problem of Unbrowse.

To work around this it would help if I can disable the autoscaling function of the graph. And maybe add conditional graphing. Are there plans to add more of this flexibility in the internal graph tool ?

Hi,

See below,
This works fine when the values of Counter64 are running at the right rate and are always available. It seems that sometimes a value is missed which results in a large delta in the graph.

Let me double check this here, a missed value should not result in this kind of spike. It maybe that a missed Counter64 value is being interpreted as zero. That would be a bug with Unbrowse.

We dont have much plans for the poller, the main use case is a simple and responsive graphing tool to aid diagnostic. We will certainly accomodate requests for improvement. What do you have in mind for "conditional graphing" ?
