TOPIC: GRE Support?

GRE Support? 16 years 2 months ago #169

Unsniff is not displaying anything contained within the GRE packet. For example, I have a trace which I know is:

+Ethernet
+IP
+GRE
+PPP
+IP
+UDP
+RTP

But UnSniff does not decode anything below the first IP. That is, GRE, PPP, IP, UDP, and RTP data shows up in the hex dump but it is not decoded.

In reviewing the list of supported protocols by Unsniff I don't see GRE listed. Is support for this planned or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

Unsniff 1.0 does not support GRE, so it is unable to look beyond that.

You can however try our beta release R1.6, which does support GRE. I will post a download link in a few minutes.

Thanks - looks like I made an update to the post the same time you posted the reply. Sorry - and I appreciate the feedback.

Hi,

We just published the latest build to our beta page. Please try it out. GRE should work ok.

To view the beta page, you must first log in. Then click on the menu item at the top named \"Limited Beta Page\".

Thank you Vivek

But after following the installation instructions it still is not decoding GRE.

I've removed version 1.0 via Add Remote
I deleted the entire unsniff directory
I installed 1.6
Confirmed version at launch via help (1.6.0.1282)

And the behavior was unchanged - GRE was not being decoded.

I noticed that the plug-in Manager did not list GRE - should it be listed there?

Thanks for your help.

Hi John,

The MSI installer has a problem !

A quick workaround.

1. Open Plugins -> Install, the go to the C:\Program Files\Unleash Networks\Unsniff\Bin folder

2. Select the baseprot.dll file

3. Open Plugins -> Manage Access Points. Click on the \"Restore Defaults\" button. This builds the mapping chain with GRE->PPP etc.

4. Restart Unsniff

This should work until we fix the installation. The MSI installer did not install the baseprot.dll file correctly.

Thanks,
Vivek
